Dr. Shaine A. Cararas is the owner of Move Muscle Activation. A licensed massage therapist and a certified MAT specialist, Dr. Cararas also holds a PhD in organic chemistry. His journey from working in a lab to helping his clients with MAT began over 10 years ago.
Dr. Cararas graduated from the University of New Orleans in 2007 with a PhD in organic and medical chemistry, intending to pursue a career in drug design. After working at the Center for Drug Discovery at Northeastern University in Boston, Dr. Cararas returned to New Orleans where he began his second post-doctorate position.
Getting out of the Lab
In 2011, Dr. Cararas realized that he needed to take his career in another direction. He moved to Dallas and, as he explains it, “I got out of the lab. I got involved in fitness.”
As Dr. Cararas began to work with his new clients, he noticed that some individuals were sustaining injuries in the gym simply because of the way their bodies were moving. As a trained scientist, he wanted to find out why—and what he could do to help.
“I realized I could train these guys to correct their movement,” he says, “But how could I physically help them?”
Making Muscles Move
His own chiropractor recommended that Dr. Cararas meet with the founder of Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) in Denver. “Once I started down that path,” he says, “I never looked back.”
